Fed: Senator Heffernan should apologise to Pat Turner: ALC

The Aboriginal Land Council wants Liberal senator BILL HEFFERNAN to apologise to indigenous
leader PAT TURNER .. for interrupting a news conference at Parliament House yesterday.

The outspoken senator interrupted a group of indigenous leaders speaking out against
the federal government's intervention in Northern Territory indigenous communities.

Standing among journalists .. Senator HEFFERNAN tried to question Ms TURNER about former
Labor national president WARREN MUNDINE .. who supports the intervention to tackle child
sex abuse.

The council's New South Wales chair .. BEV MANTON .. says Senator HEFFERNAN's attempts
to disrupt the news conference were beyond the pale.

Ms MANTON says she's spoken to a number of Aboriginal women who were offended by the
senator's behaviour.
