Naperville -- Nalco completes purchase of Chemco Water TechnologyNalco Chemical Co. said it has completed its previously announced agreement to acquire Chemco Water Technology Inc. of Vancouver, Wash. Terms and purchase price were not disclosed.

Chemco manufactures and markets boiler and cooling water treatment chemicals and services to steel, paper, cogeneration, chemical, petrochemical, food and beverage facilities across the nation.

It estimates 1997 sales will be more than $7 million.

Over the past 18 months, Nalco has added about $130 million in sales to its water treatment business, primarily in the middle market -- aerospace, food and beverage, universities, office buildings, hospitals, computer chip manufacturers and other medium- to light-industrial customers.

Nalco said it expects the middle market to grow at double-digit rates worldwide.

Westell pact to provide city high-speed Internet access

The city of Prince Rupert, British Columbia, has signed a three-year contract for Asymmetrial Digital Subscriber Line service using Westell Technologies Inc.'s systems.

Terms were withheld.

City Tel, a local phone company owned by the city of Prince Rupert, made the deal possible by recently expanding to provide Internet access to the city through its ISP, CityLink.

The contract with Westell calls for about 1,000 initial lines in Prince Rupert.

Applications will include video, video-on- demand, distance learning and telemedicine.

Consumers find stable turkey dinner prices easy to digest

The cost of the traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner edged higher this year, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation.

In its annual survey, the organization found the average cost of this year's holiday feast for 10 -- including turkey, cranberries, pumpkin pie and all the trimmings -- to be $31.75, compared with $31.66 a year earlier and $24.51 in 1987.

The largest increase was a 10-cent rise in the price of sweet potatoes, which averaged $1.92 per three-pound bag.
