Fed: National Party opposes misuse of trusts, says Anderson
The National Party says it remains opposed to the misuse of trusts and tax avoidance,
despite its decision to oppose tax changes for family trusts.
The National Party has decided to oppose legislation which would enable the government
to tax trusts in the same way as companies.
Party leader JOHN ANDERSON says he's spoken to Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD about the
party's concerns with the proposed legislation.
However, he says, they don't oppose the elimination of rorts, which is what the government
is after.
Mr ANDERSON says the National Party is opposed to wealthy individuals using trusts
as a way of cheating taxpayers.
