For four years, Sila Calderon was mayor of San Juan, but on January 2 she was its queen. Thousands of people jammed the narrow cobblestone streets of San Juan's 500-year-old historic district to celebrate Calderon's inauguration as Puerto Rico's first woman governor, reports AP (January 2, 2001):
