NSW: Drive-by shooting isolated incident: police

SYDNEY, Dec 19 AAP - A drive-by shooting at a house in south-western Sydney early today
appeared to be an isolated incident and not linked to a spate of shootings in the area,
police said.

But police from task force Gain - set up to tackle gun crime in Sydney's south west
- would be asked to look at the shooting regardless, police superintendent Terry Jacobson
said.

A volley of shots was sprayed into a house on Newbridge Rd at Chipping Norton about
5.30am (AEDT) today, from a tan-coloured car, Supt Jacobson said.

Three young men were inside the house but none was injured.

Supt Jacobson said the bullets - believed to have been fired from a Glock automatic
pistol - penetrated through the home's security shutters but did not travel far into the
house.

"There's evidence that shots have penetrated the lower level of a duplex," Supt Jacobson
told reporters.

"Because of the time of morning, neighbours have seen little.

"It's not linked to other shootings. It appears to be an isolated incident, but Gain
expertise will be sought."

Occupants of the house are helping police with their inquiries into the incident, although
they were asleep when the shooting occurred.

Supt Jacobson said it had not yet been established whether the occupants had tried
to return fire, but he said this was unlikely.
