Peotone economic bill hits new turbulence: Some legislators oppose giving Will towns a say on growth at airport site

SPRINGFIELD -- There's more turbulence in the ongoing battle forcontrolling growth at the proposed Peotone airport site.

Legislation that would give Will County governments developmentoversight on and around the airport site could be grounded thisspring by some state House lawmakers who fear the proposal couldjettison airport investment plans.

Under the bill that could surface Wednesday in the House, fiveWill County villages and the county itself would have a say in theeconomic development of about 120,000 acres on and around theintended airport site. This plan flew through the state Senate lastmonth 48-4.
