Fed: WA senator to bid for interim Democrats leadership

CANBERRA, Aug 22 AAP - Western Australian Senator Brian Greig today announced he wouldchallenge for the interim leadership of the Australian Democrats.

A phone hook-up of the Australian Democrats national executive will tonight endorsea new interim leader after the resignation yesterday of Natasha Stott Despoja.

Current deputy Aden Ridgeway was favoured to take up the leadership until a nationalballot of Democrats members could vote for a replacement for Senator Stott Despoja.

Senator Greig, a key supporter of Senator Stott Despoja in the Democrats party room,said he wanted to ensure the party had a choice for interim leader.

He would then decide if he would nominate for leader in the national ballot.
