Fed: Turnbull not embarrassed by education spat: Crosby
Liberal Party director LYNTON CROSBY has denied that the party's incoming treasurer,MALCOLM TURNBULL, has been embarrassed by an internal spat over education funding.
Mr TURNBULL, a prominent republican and preselection hopeful for the Liberals, yesterdayunveiled a plan for a shake-up of school funding to the party's federal council in Canberra.
The radical plan was rejected only minutes later, with Education Minister BRENDAN NELSONsaying it would never become government policy while he remained on the frontbench.
The proposal, from the Liberal think-tank the Menzies Research Centre, changed thebasis of school funding and gave parents and communities a stronger role in school management.
Mr CROSBY has told the Seven Network Mr TURNBULL did nothing more than release a discussionpaper, designed to provoke debate.
He said the Menzies Centre, which is chaired by Mr TURNBULL, is an independent think tank.
He says he's sure that Mr TURNBULL, a prominent critic of Prime Minister JOHN HOWARDat the time of the failed republic referendum, will work well with Mr HOWARD in his newrole.
