Qld: Toll free day on roads follows disasterous holiday start
A toll-free day on Queensland roads has followed an earlier disastrous start to the
Easter break which has left four people in the south of the State dead.
A man aged 57 died after his car hit a car-port pole at Kenmore in Brisbane's west
yesterday afternoon.
The accident came less than an hour after two people were killed and two backseat passengers
injured when their car slammed into a concrete pylon on Brisbane's Storey Bridge.
The male driver, aged 44, and female front-seat passenger, 34, died instantly in the
crash, while two men aged 18 and 19 were taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital, where they're
both in a serious, but stable, condition.
The first person killed in the State at the outset of the Easter break was a 22 year-old
man from the southern New South Wales town of Griffith.
He died on the New England Highway near Severnlea, about 5km south of Stanthorpe near
the NSW border.
The accident happened at around dawn yesterday morning when a car with three other
people inside left the highway and rolled into a ditch.
The three others were injured and one was flown by helicopter to the Princess Alexandra
Hospital in Brisbane with broken legs and head and back injuries.
